At the Queensland Music Festival, Suncorp Stadium, Artistic Director James Morrison was determined to not only set an Australian record for the Largest Orchestra, but challenge the world record that stood at 6,452 players, and was held by the city of Vancouver Canada.

And the challenge was won, in fact, officials verified that 7,224 musicians actively took part on the day achieving a new world record!!

The orchestra consisted of:

Brass - french horns, trumpets, trombones, euphoniums, tubas

Strings - violins, violas, cellos, double bass

Woodwind - piccolos, flutes, oboes, bassoons, clarinets, saxophones, recorders

Percussion - Drums, timpanis, cymbals, triangles, tambourines

The variety of instruments offered easy and more challenging parts, giving musicians of every level the opportunity to participate in what was a music phenomena.

Being an Australian orchestra the first recital was Waltzing Matilda, followed by a symphonic event, tribute was paid to one of the grand masters Beethoven, with his memorable Ode to Joy. For the grand finale, Queen's iconic We Will Rock You completed a magical musical event.
