Date of Record: 12/07/2013

Tall 19-year-old Ashton Agar, a talented left-arm spinner from Melbourne, with 10 first-class matches behind him has hit the record books in his amazing debut at the Ashes series playing at Trentbridge Nottingham England in front of a capacity crowd.

Ashton had begun the Ashes summer playing 50-over cricket in the Home Counties Premier League for Henley (England), being coached by fellow Australian Todd Ferguson.

It was the Aussie's sporting dream, being the first Australian teenager to make his debut in an Ashes Test, since Doug Walters in 1965.

It became a monumental night as records kept falling! Ashton alone outdid the record from 1902 of 45 runs previously held by Aussie, Warwick Armstrong as a number 11 debut batsman. Ashton surpassed this scoring an incredible 98 runs, when he was caught by Graeme Swann off Stuart Broad at deep mid-wicket, just short of his century score.

He then outdid the highest Test innings by any number 11 - which until Thursday was West Indian Tino Best's 95 against England last year.

He surpassed the previous best score in Test match cricket by an Australian number 11, which was an innings of 61 previously held in 2004 by fast bowler Glenn McGrath.

The left-arm spinner scored at a strike rate of 97.02, just under a run a ball, throughout his innings - and 60 of his runs came from boundaries.

His dismissal saw Australia all out for 280 in reply to England's first innings of 215.
