Oldest Golf Australian Open Champion - Peter Senior

Date of Record: 09/12/2012

Peter Senior managed to 'hold his nerve' in near impossible conditions to become golf's oldest Australian Open champion. The 53-year-old overcame gale force winds and a three-hour delay at the windswept Lakes course in Sydney to achieve a final-round even-par 72 to win the Stonehaven Cup by just one shot from a determined Brendan Jones.

Peter was assisted by his teenage son Mitchell. He tallied four-under for the tournament after rounds of 75-68-69-72 to claim his 30th professional win.

The Queenslander's previous Open victory and his first, was as a 30-year-old back in 1989.

In winds gusting up to 80kph, the entire field suffered as they wrestled the unkind conditions, however Peter dropped just two shots all day - at the fifth and seventh holes - but birdies on the par-4 10th and 12th holes proved priceless.
