The Biggest Pineapple - Sunshine Coast QLD
Date of Record: 1971
Bill and Lyn Taylor created Sunshine Plantation in 1971. Leading architect Edward Devenport (Ed) and Peter Hartley were seconded to design and construct the Big Pineapple for the Sunshine Plantation. They went a to a fruit shop bought a pineapple and sat it on the desk while they designed it.
The pineapple was then built as one of the biggest roadside attractions on the Sunshine Coast Qld. Inevitably the Big Pineapple was built to gain the attention of passing traffic.
The 16 metre high structure is a cylindrical shape made from steel frames and fibreglass shell and the yellow and green colours make it very eye catching.
