First Australian Idol - Guy Sebastian

In May 2003, Guy Sebastian successfully auditioned for Australian Idol when he sang a Stevie Wonder song 'Ribbon in the Sky'. Throughout the Idol competition he established an increasingly strong fan base and was well liked by the judging panel. Guy's afro style hairdo was his trademark and it became frequently talked about.
On 19 November 2003, Guy was announced the winner of the first Australian Idol. He gained a recording contract with BMG, which later merged with Sony. With 40 platinum and three gold certifications and combined album and single sales of over 2.9 million in Australia, he has the highest certifications and sales of any Australian Idol contestant.
