Australia's Largest Freshwater Fish - The Murray Cod
The Murray cod is a large Australian predatory freshwater fish. It is an important and charismatic part of Australia's vertebrate wildlife and is found in the Murray-Darling river system. The Murray cod is the largest exclusively freshwater fish in Australia, and one of the largest in the world.
Adult fish regularly reach 80-100 centimetres in length in the very smallest waterways. Murray cod are capable of growing well over 1 metre in length and the largest on record was over 1.8 metres and approximately 113 kilograms in weight.
